Meet Yvonne Wambui

Yvonne Wambui is a 17 year old girl in form four at Ruai girls secondary school, she dropped out of school in March 2022 due to lack of school fees. She stays with her sister in Kayole Village, Kayole Subcounty Nairobi County in Kenya. She is the second born in family of five. Her parents died when she was seven years old and her uncle took everything that belonged to them since they were young. They were later chased away and they ran to the streets when Yvonne was 10 years and her elder sister was 12 years old. Through a well-wisher, her elder sister secured a casual job of baby sitting and she was able to feed and care for her other four siblings (child headed family) .

Efforts to recover what their uncle took from them did not bear fruits since the uncle had already sold everything and moved to another County. Through struggles her other siblings have been able to complete primary education but they have not had a chance to join high school.

Yvonne loves church and through the mercies of church members, she could be given casual jobs to do so that she can be able to buy her own personal needs. Her education was supported by a well wisher who later lost her job when she was in form two in 2021. Thereafter, she was in and out of school until the fees balance was too high to pay and she had to stay at home from March 2022.

Jali Sisters has helped her go back to school and she is very happy. She is very bright and very good in science subjects.
